It is our great pleasure to announce that the forthcoming 19
th International Symposium on Nonlinear Acoustics (ISNA) will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from July 24 to 28*, 2011, at the
International Conference Center of
Waseda University. This venue was decided at the
last (18th) ISNA held in 2008 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, in response to the invitation by the Nonlinear Acoustics Society of Japan (NASJ).
The ISNA, which was first held in 1968 at New London, Connecticut, USA, was held annually or every two years up to 1978, and since then has been held every three years. It has thus now been taking place for more than 40 years. This fact owes not only to the zeal of the former organizers and participants but also to their excellent foresight; the ISNA is a forerunner of many symposia focusing on the importance of nonlinearity and its target is oriented just along the right direction in creating a new nonlinear science. At the same time, the outcomes of the symposia have contributed greatly to solving real problems in various fields such as energy, environments, medicine, and so forth, and ultimately to enhancing the quality of life. The topics covered at the symposia have recently become very diverse and also highly interdisciplinary. Inheriting such a good tradition to display its
raison dfetre in new age to come, the
scope of the symposium is set with the aims of exploring new subjects and new directions of research.
In 1984, the 10th ISNA was held in Kobe, Japan, and after a quarter of a century, it will return to Japan in 2011. In 1981, prior to the Kobe symposium, the NASJ was established and has since been active in promoting the advancement of nonlinear acoustics. All members of the society cordially invite you to participate in this symposium by providing a forum for eminent scientists and engineers to discuss problems and exchange ideas in an academic atmosphere. The program will consist of
invited lectures and oral and poster presentations. All papers presented at the symposium will be published by the American Institute of Physics in one volume of the Conference Proceedings series.
As Tokyo is one of the busiest capitals in the world and the conference site is located just in the heart of the metropolitan area, you will be able to observe and experience both modern and traditional aspects of Japanese life. You may also discover beautiful scenery and many features of interest in the countryside. We hope that you may partake in some sightseeing or travel by yourself and enjoy your stay in Japan in addition to participating in the symposium.
